Harris Federation of South London Schools
The Harris Federation aims to transform the life chances of young people by bringing about rapid improvement in examination results. In Summer 2009 our seven Academies with examination results achieved record improvements. In six of the seven schools these results have been achieved entirely with students from the predecessor schools. Three of the schools had been Harris Academies for only three years, two had been Academies for only two years and one Academy has been operational for six years.
The average improvement in 5 or more higher grade passes including English and Mathematics was 8%, which was far in excess of the national improvement. In terms of the overall number of students gaining five good passes in any subject, the average across the group rose from 62% to 83%.
The average improvement is 21 percentage points. Four of the seven Harris academies with results now have 90% or more students gaining five good passes. With five or more passes with English and Maths the seven Harris Academies with results outperformed (using the analysis produced by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust) by an average of 10.4 percent. Additionally four of the six Academies inspected so far have been judged to be Outstanding by Ofsted with a fifth receiving a judgement of having made Outstanding progress in a monitoring visit, one Academy has been judged to be good and one satisfactory. This inspection record is unmatched by any other Academy multiple group including ARK, Mercers, Habadashers and Emmanuel (Vardy).
